Huawei Honor 5X Review Excellent Mid-range smartphone For Low Price

Late last year we were particularly excited about the Honor 7. With his body as metal and very satisfactory performance for its niche tariff, the smartphone had serious arguments. This time, here come to Europe the Honor 5X. Greater but less efficient on paper in many areas, the new terminal is intended particularly to young people through a particularly attractive price. The Honor 5X did it what it takes to succeed in the smartphone sector 5.5 inches and the manufacturer he manages once again to offer a terminal to the quality / price difficult to attack? Place the test to find out.

    Design

Honor for his 5X, the manufacturer shows the outline of Honor 7, but also inspired by what is done at HTC. The silver model features a black front more conventional, while the back and sides are made of brushed metal. Nothing to say about this matter that is certainly premium (but less than the Honor 7), although the plastic strips at the top and bottom are slightly spoil the whole (probably the price to pay for good reception).

Once again the finish is exemplary, including at the buttons (volume and power), or photo sensor, which protrudes slightly from the body of the apparatus. The grip is also excellent.

    Screen

With Full HD resolution and 401ppp the Honor 5X does not offer a particularly outstanding display, but does the job perfectly for this price range. The viewing angle is slightly limited, however, and we would have appreciated the Home button, back and touch options on broadband-black bottom of the screen rather than virtual buttons.

    Performances

In terms of raw performance, when using the phone menus or its native applications, the Honor 5X is in perfectly good spell. Some slight performance degradation when we regret the use of Hearthstone or demanding games like Real Racing, but nothing prevents them from playing or using the terminal comfortably enough.

In practice and in the benchmarks, the Snapdragon 615 and 2GB of RAM do their job without particularly shine nor disappoint either. However, thanks to his performances mastered the terminal very little heat.

That may be the side of the autonomy Honor played a nice card (for this price range, again). With its battery of 3000 mAh, the 5X holds about a big day in fairly heavy use and being reasonable and using the options it is possible to grow a few more hours.

5X audio side is the union minimum at its mono speaker: The maximum volume is not very high and ears clearly heard better sound.

    Photo and video

With such a small price, Honor had to make some sacrifices. This is felt in photo sensors, worse than the Honor 7. This is also the side of the photo that feels more than 5X is a terminal beginning mid-range.Despite a particularly good development speed and a fairly complete software layer (filters, HDR, slow, improvements ... etc.), Snapshots captured by the smartphone are just average. However, it will report the ability to shoot in 1080p or to make time-lapse.

    Applications

Like the Honor 7, the overlay EMUI 5X concretely takes the iOS design and does not provide for applications drawer. Nothing new since the last time, except that it is here in particular possible to assign the fingerprint reader to 5 actions to as many different fingers.

Thus, the right book can for example be used to unlock the smartphone (the reactivity is also exemplary), while the left will launch the camera, the left middle finger will launch the Play Store or the right major call a particular contact.

Friendly, but also gadget that can naturally be used because of the back drive location and the fact that the phone must be locked for it to work. However being able to perform certain actions with a specific movement on the sensor or the screen is certainly convenient.

Note that some applications such as home or Vmall Hicare are appearing alongside too many third apps, including games, while navigating a hand is always there. An energy-saving mode is also quite welcome to part with different profiles depending on the needs of the moment.

    Specifications System: Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Emotion UI 3.1 interface Display: IPS LCD 5.5 inch, Full HD 1929 x 1080 pixels (401ppp) Processor (CPU): Snapdragon 615 64-bit (eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz) GPU: Adreno 405 RAM: 2 GB internal Storage: 16GB SD Slot: yes up to 128GB Camera: 13 megapixels with LED flash front camera: 5 megapixels Battery: 3000 mAh (non-removable) Connectivity : 4G, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n Connectivity: micro USB 2.0, 3.5mm Dimensions: 151.3 x 76.3 x 8.2 mm Weight: 158 grams Colors: Grey , silver or gold.

    Conclusion

At only 230 euros, the Honor 5X is an excellent smartphone. Although it is a bit slower than the 7 Honor, either at the sensors, autonomy or gross returns 5X features a better screen and offers a very interesting solution for those who seek a phone 5, 5 inches sufficiently effective without breaking the bank. The fingerprint sensor is certainly a plus and only the overlay really blows hot and cold. But to have a metal body below 300 euros, you have to make some sacrifices.
