inaugurates 2016 with Pi 3, more powerful and always incorporating more techie.
Four years after the launch of the first Raspberry Pi and having sold over 8 million units worldwide (as Eben Upton, founder of the brand), the English company formalizes the Pi 3. This is the new micro PC brand, it retains the same size, the same price ($ 35) but provides 30 to 60% performance (depending on use) more than the second iteration, adding Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in its recipe.
The small Raspberry Pi 3 (8.5 x 5.6 x 1.7 cm) is probably the biggest evolution of the family. Indeed, this new model integrates wireless communications (802.11n and BT 4.1) but also features a brand new processor SoC (System on Chip) designed by Broadcom. Type ARM Cortex-A53, it is about 10 times more powerful than the board computation chip on the first Raspberry Pi. Thus, each of the four cores clocked at 1.2 GHz that supports both apps 32 64 -bit. Regarding the RAM, nothing moves, only 1GB of memory (DDR2) is soldered to the motherboard.
The radius graphics, this is a type of controller Dual Core VideoCore IV which is the bar (400 MHz in 2D, 3D 300 MHz). It supports OpenGL and Open VG standards, and is capable of decoding 1080p video streams at 30 frames / second (x264 supported). Finally, the connection is still made up of a network socket (10/100), HDMI video output (1.3 and 1.4) and a jack (3.5 mm) and 4 USB 2.0 ports. And food, in turn, rest assured by a microUSB jack.
The release and immediate availability of the Raspberry Pi 3 does not advertise provided the death of older versions. These continue to be marketed 25 (for 1) and $ 35 (for 2).
